Welcome to the Route Generator page
Route Generator is a free tool for generating animated travel routes on a map and converting them into videos. These videos can be added to projects in video editors such as Pinnacle Studio or Vegas Pro. Route Generator includes the following features:
- Import maps from OpenStreetMap, Google Maps, GeoTIFF or just use your own (scanned) map images.
- Import GPX routes (tracks) or draw your own routes on the map by using a simple point-and-click interface.
- Use a (animated) vehicle icon that "travels" the route or add your custom vehicle images.
- Use FFmpeg to convert the sequence of route image frames into a video of any format (e.g. MP4, AVI) or codec (H.264, VP9, etc.).
- The latest release of Route Generator is currently provided for Windows (10,11) and Linux (Mint, Elementary OS, Ubuntu, Debian)

macOS is currently not supported yet, but I’d like to understand whether there is enough interest before investing the effort.
